Vulcan
was designed by Italian sculptor Guiseppe Moretti. Vulcan was the Roman
god of the forge, what better symbol of Birmingham's mineral wealth ? Vulcan
was cast in Birmingham at Birmingham Steel & Iron. The Williamson Foundry
cast the anvil and hammer. After
languishing at the fairgrounds, a proposal put forth by Kiwanis Club members
provided the spark for Vulcan Park which opened in 1938. The card on the right is a 1960's chrome.
Vulcan is second largest to the Statue of Liberty. He is reputed
to be the world's tallest iron man. The safety torch is readily visible
in these views.
