Phillips High School

Named after John Herbert Phillips, Superintendent of Education for the Birmingham System, Phillips opened in 1923.  The card was printed by Tichnor, published by Ehler's News, Birmingham.  2003 saw Phillips still open but as a professional development center.
The card at right of "New Central High School" was printed circa 1921 by E.C. Kropp. Card was printed before the decision to name "Phillips". Looks like a postcard artist thought the card would look better with tall skinny trees. The school is on the site of the former Birmingham High (Central High) School. Central was destroyed by fire in 1918. Postcard Birmingham Home Page
