Barker Elementary School was on the corner of 13th Avenue and 23rd Street North. Barker was destroyed by a fire starting in the boiler room in 1941. The alarm was turned in by a paper boy on his route at 5:18A.M. Students arrived to find their school a smoking shell of brick.
