If you remember eating at Joy Young's downtown, you are dating yourself. Joy Young's moved from its 20th Street location to Highland Avenue in the sixties and has long since gone.
Postcard Birmingham Home Page
A random look at Birmingham, Alabama history
through old picture postcards.
Aside from its reputation for food, Joy Young's gets my vote for the most colorful of Birmingham restaurant postcards. The two horizontal linen postcards were published by Curteich, 1938 (top) and 1939. The vertical was publishedMWM Color, Aurora, Missouri. They bore similar captions: "Me, Joe and Loo sabe wiseyman wely good. Allo time take care me business lestland. No tly take notha man business. Look out good behind, take care, buy numba onegood wegable, meat any kind, take care cook, waita, dushwashy, no can foolem customa sisify, get plenty good flen"
