The Vulcan Motor Lodge in Homewood was obtained by St. Francis Motor Courts in 1953. They did not remodel the Vulcan to fit in with St. Francis architecture, desiring instead to draw on it's reputation. In 1951, "Tourist Court Journal" had crowned Vulcan Motor Lodge the "Waldorf Astoria of Tourist Courts" Notice the dual signs as well as Vulcan on Red Mountain, in the background.
