Town Motel, U.S. 11, 400 block of 3rd Avenue West. The top card is linen printed by E.C. Kropp, circa 1945-1955. This card's caption reads: Sound and fireproof - private al tile baths - comfortable beds - carpeted floors - brick - central air conditioning and heat - free TV. Owned and operated by the builders Mr. & Mrs. Charles D. Mitchell & Son. The newer card, early 1960's, below shows a larger neon sign. The card is of special interest because it also has a map detailing the motel's location. This card was printed by Dexter, published by WM. Massey, Jasper, Alabama. January 2003 saw the Town still around with chain link gate and board fence topped by razor wire. The clientele has changed from earlier days and the sign offers half day rates. The property appears to be in good condition and the sign's neon partially works. Jan 2003 photo by Warren Reed |
