April 2005 photo by Warren Reed The Ace Motel is on the Bessemer Superhighway (U.S.11), a few addresses north from the site of the old Wigwam Motel. Linen card, circa late 1940's published by E.C. Kropp. 2007 sees that it is still there as the Ace. It appears to offer inexpensive longer term housing. The interior post card is among the most interesting motel interior I've seen. Check the bedspread, reading lamp above the bed, tile work in the bathroom, and sofa. And, what is that arched nook with the two chairs and small counter top? It also appars to be a spacious room for the era. Captions reads: "TRAVELERS ONLY 80% Fire Proof, Radios, Private Garages, Circulating Ice Water, Tile Baths, Radiant Flo-Heat, Air-Conditioned, Beauty-Rest Mattresses and Box Springs, Simmons Metal Furniture, Studio Couches, Circulating Hot Water, Night Watchman Service, Bell-Boy Service, Cafe Adjoins, Rates-$2.50 and up. Phone: Bessemer 1800. Card published by Unique Adv. & Display, harvard, Ill, printed by Tichnor Brothers, Boston, MA |
